Elephants are actually excellent swimmers and can swim for up to six hours continuously! They use their trunks as snorkels when swimming in deep water. The elephant's trunk contains over 40,000 muscles and can hold up to 2 gallons of water. Swimming trunks, the clothing, got their name because they originally resembled short tree trunks!
